Doughnut Tasting at Krispy Kreme - Red Velvet Doughnut

Yes, I have heard of wine tasting and I have heard of cheese tasting.

After yesterday, I now can add “doughnut tasting” to my vocabulary.

It is exactly like wine tasting because I got to taste so many different types of doughnut flavors.

Unlike wine tasting, however, I didn’t spit out the doughnut after tasting it. In fact, I may be accused of wolfing down the doughnuts and doing so with both hands.

All the verbs and adjectives that I have heard being used to describe Krispy Kreme’s doughnuts are accurate down to the last bite: delectable, yummy, luscious, appetizing, spicy, sweet, king of comfort foods, appealing, ambrosial, bursting with flavor, krispy, addicting, divinely, gratifying, amazing and kissable.

Ok, I added the last one.

Matt was our tasting director and Missy was our doughnut making specialist. They started our doughnut tasting adventure off with the glazed doughnut holes.  I don’t know if you are lucky enough to have ever tasted a doughnut right off the assembly line. This was my first experience and I couldn’t believe it took me this long to try it.

The first taste was a burst of hot sugar and it was the most amazing taste I have ever experienced.  For a person whose taste buds only get to savor spicy foods, this was an eye opening experience.

We moved on to a tray filled with a variety of the holiday flavor doughnuts.

They included:

– Glazed doughnuts

– Red Velvet doughnuts

– Snowman doughnuts

– Pumpkin spiced doughnuts

– Cinnamon doughnuts

– Cinnamon bun doughnuts

– Bavarian crème doughnuts

– Chocolate with sprinkle doughnuts

– Vanilla with sprinkle doughnuts

– Jelly doughnuts

– Chocolate Iced cream filled doughnuts

–  Glazed Curlers

This picture was taken moments before the snowman was dipped into coffee and devoured in one bite by yours truly.  The frosting is what gives the snowman its’ fantastic taste. It is not too sweet or bland. The snowman is the Goldilocks of perfect taste.

The sight of the doughnuts coming down the assembly line was like watching the sun rise over the ocean. What a breathtaking site!

Wonder what the doughnut tray looked like after a bunch of female bloggers with plastic knives and hungry mouths got done with it?  Take a look at the aftermath!

From this picture, you should be able to tell just how much we loved the taste of these doughnuts.

Tomorrow (12-12-13), Krispy Kreme is having the “Day-of-the-dozen doughnuts”. This promotion is provided by all Krispy Kreme locations in the country. The “Day-of-the-dozen” doughnuts was started last year on 12-12-12 and brought back because of its incredible success.

Go to Krispy Kreme’s website and download the coupon. Take the coupon to Krispy Kreme and they will give you a free dozen doughnuts when you buy a dozen doughnuts.

Don’t be surprised if you see me parked at this Winter Park location tomorrow.  The whole experience wasn’t just about the tasty doughnuts, but, also about the people who work there.  Everyone working at that location was respectful, courteous and super nice. They are good people doing good work and provide a great community service.

And, I have saved the best for last. If you ever find yourself at this Winter Park Krispy Kreme and the place is not busy, they will create a custom doughnut for you! Yes, you read that correctly.  They will allow you to choose your choice of doughnut filling and then create that doughnut.

Their morning hours are the busiest time for orders. So, go there in the afternoon if you would like to customize your doughnut.

And, that is Missy! She has a very infectious laugh to go along with her infinite knowledge base for the Krispy Kreme Doughnut.

Now, I know my readers want to know if I asked them about a tomato flavored doughnut. You know me too well!!!

OF COURSE, I asked them if they had a tomato flavored doughnut and they said, “Not at this time.  However, we will be willing to look into that possibility”.

How cool is that!! Someday, maybe, you will be able to taste the wonderful tomato doughnut.

Now, for my favorite doughnut of the afternoon.  I loved the red velvets, cinnamon, pumpkin, snowman and even the cream filled doughnuts. But, when it comes to favorites, nothing beats the classic glazed doughnut!

The glazed doughnut and the glazed doughnut holes are what make me a Krispy Kreme lifer….
